Marketing Today: Just Because You Can, Should You?

As technology has changed how we consume information, the way brands speak to their consumers has changed. Online influencers have been a trend that we have seen with many brands across different products and different demographics. As many brands have jumped at the chance to reach consumers in a new way, unexpected issues have arisen.

Get a bird’s-eye view of the issues brand legal teams need to address when working with an influencer and find out how to break up with influencers with the least impact to your brand. Walk away with the questions you need to ask, the due diligence you need to do, and the exit clause you wish you had in every talent agreement!

Swaim Hutson

The Academy New York

In 2002, Swaim Hutson launched Obedient Sons. A New York City-based menswear brand built upon the promise of creating garments that are timeless and infused with tradition and history.

In 2007, alongside ex-wife and designer partner, Hutson relaunched the brand to have a renewed focus on men’s tailored suiting. The collection debuted at New York Men’s Week with a runway presentation and quickly caught the attention of editors and retailers as well as landing coverage in publications including American Vogue, L'Uomo Vogue, Another Man, GQ, and Details.

At that time, Obedient Sons and Daughters secured a global presence across the United States of America, Great Britain, Japan, Canada, France, Sweden, Hong Kong, Dubai and Korea and was stocked at over 40 retailers including Lane Crawford and a domestic partnership with Barneys New York.

In 2008, the duo launched Daughters a womenswear counterpart to Obedient Sons. That same year, Obedient Sons and Daughters were nominated for GQ/CFDA 2008 Best New Menswear Designers as well as finalists for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.

In 2009, Obedient Sons and Daughters decided to close its doors and Hutson went on to work as a consultant, design director and creative director at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Club Monaco and Generra, respectively, and accruing nearly 20-years of experience working in the fashion industry.

Now, for Fall/Winter 2019 Hutson has reentered the fashion world with his debut collection under his latest label, The Academy New York.
