Kim has 30 years of experience in the intellectual property field, with both in-house and private practice background.  In addition to trademark rights and availability clearances, trademark and copyright prosecution and proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, Kim has extensive international experience in IP and related commercial transactions, IP portfolio audit and analysis and brand protection and enforcement.  

A particular concentration of Kim’s practice is on global trademark licensing negotiations and transactions, and brand protection strategies.  Having handled all aspects of IP licensing and brand extension management of large brand portfolios, Kim’s depth of knowledge in global licensing programs adds a unique dimension to her practice serving a diverse array of clients from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups across a myriad of industries, product categories and retail channels.  

In addition to writing and negotiating complex IP licenses, Kim provides strategic brand architecture guidance for portfolio and program management; redesign of IP operational processes and best practices for compliance protocols; crafting of social media/influencer/creative collaborations; and the establishment of innovative deal structures that result in revenue growth tied to the IP assets.

In fact, he holds a remarkable world record for the longest professional zoom meeting, which he simultaneously streamed to Facebook and YouTube. The streaming started at 5:55 on 5/5/2021 (Israel time, GMT+2) and lasted 24 hours, 30 minutes, and 9 seconds).

Gil has worked with C-level executives of companies like Intel, Microsoft, PayPal, Allergan, Merck, Toyota, and many more. Named as one of "Israel's Best Business Trainers" for the past 30 years, Gil has led the training, coaching, and leading to peak performance for most of Israel's largest companies. In addition, Gil has developed unique workshops to help executives develop the "Chutzpah mindset" to serve the world.

Gil is the author of "Intimate Marketing" and coauthor of "Obama's Secrets: How to Speak and Communicate with Power and a Little Magic."

Kathryn Szymczyk

Kathryn is Senior Business Development Manager for the Global IP group at Gowling WLG. She is a member of the firm’s Global IP Leadership team and works with members to devise business development strategies and drive international initiatives.

Kathryn brings her understanding of the global IP legal market place together with her coaching, training, facilitating, and business development skills to supporting the team. She is passionate about bringing a client-centric and big picture perspective to developing client relationships and cultivating new business.

Before joining Gowling WLG, Kathryn ran SC&C a business development and leadership consulting firm. She provided group training, coaching, facilitation, and strategic advice to lawyers and law firms from around the world.

Before making the transition to business development and strategy, Kathryn practiced IP law herself for 12 years in our Ottawa and Toronto offices and was the Head of our Moscow office from 2000-2003.  She has a keen understanding of legal and business trends across jurisdictions and extensive experience in providing multijurisdictional legal solutions to clients.

When Kathryn was still practicing, she was ranked as a leading trademark professional in Canada by WTR 1000 and was recognized by European Legal Experts and Global Counsel 3000 for IP law in Russia.

 

Daniel Zohny

Head of Intellectual Property

After law school and bar exam in Germany, Daniel obtained his LL.M. in IP at Cardozo Law School in New York in 2006, later passed the NY bar and worked there for almost five years in private practice. He eventually returned to Europe and in 2013 joined FIFA in Zurich, where he is now Head of IP. Daniel currently leads a department of nine specialized IP professionals and oversees all aspects of conceptualization, registration, maintenance and enforcement of FIFA’s IP, including the implementation of FIFA’s enforcement programs for the FIFA World Cup™ tournaments both online and onsite in the relevant host country during the event. In addition to all matters involving IP, he is responsible for FIFA’s ticketing enforcement efforts. Daniel has been active in INTA for years and in 2020 joined its Board of Directors.
