Peter Dernbach

Winkler Partners (Taiwan)

Peter J. Dernbach has been with Winkler Partners since 2003 and heads our intellectual property law practice.

Peter has substantial experience in the fields of intellectual property and competition. He has advised international clients in the Internet, food, snack food, pet care, high technology and travel and leisure industries on the acquisition and protection of trademark rights and copyrights in Taiwan and around the world. His practice includes assisting foreign and local clients in obtaining, enforcing and licensing their intellectual property rights. Through WIPO, he has served as a Panelist in over 60 domain name disputes brought under ICANN’s UDRP system.

Peter served on the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA) 2015-17, and has been recognized in the World Trademark Review as one of the leading trademark lawyers in Taiwan. Peter has also been recommended numerous times by Chambers Asia-Pacific , most recently in 2017, for his intellectual property work. In addition to serving on the INTA Board of Directors, Peter is currently serving on the Brands & Innovation Committee for INTA. Peter is also a member of the Marques China Team and co-chairs the Intellectual Property Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Taipei.

J. Scott Evans

ADOBE INC. (United States)

Mr. Evans received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1992 from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at The University of Louisville. He first served as Corporate Counsel for Fruit of the Loom where he was responsible for managing the international intellectual property portfolios for Fruit of the Loom and its associate companies The B.V.D. Licensing Corporation, Gitano, Pro Player and Salem Sportswear, Inc. In November 1996, Mr. Evans joined Adams Evans P.A. where he continued to concentrate his practice in the areas of trademark, copyright, unfair competition and Internet law. In November 2007, he joined the legal team at Yahoo! Inc. where he served as a Senior Legal Director – Global Brands and Trademarks. Mr. Evans joined Adobe Systems Incorporated in October 2013 as Associate General Counsel - Trademarks, Copyright, Domains & Marketing.

Shwetasree Majumder

Fidus Law Chambers (India)

Shwetasree Majumder is an alumnus of the National Law School, Bangalore. Once the youngest equity partner in a large Indian IP firm, she founded Fidus Law Chambers in 2008. Shwetasree concentrates her practice in litigation, enforcement and counseling in intellectual property, technology, advertising and trade secrets matters across a broad spectrum of industries.

Shwetasree was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA), for the period 2013-2015, the first woman from India to be appointed in the 135 year-old history of the organisation.

She is currently a Panelist under the WIPO Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy.

Shwetasree has been the Co-Chair of an INTA-CIPAM Working Group set up under the aegis of the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, tasked with developing materials on the subject of Intellectual Property Rights for children under the National Education Policy.

Peter Dernbach, Winkler Partners (Taiwan) is Coordinating Partner at the first law firm in Taiwan approved to operate as a partnership between Taiwanese and foreign attorneys, where he heads the IP practice. Having spent 20 years living in Taiwan, Peter speaks fluent Mandarin and has been active in numerous committees at INTA, currently leading the Programming Advisory Council and serving on the Brands and Innovation Committee. Over his 20 years as a member, he has also served on the Board of Directors between 2015 and 2017 and co-chaired the Annual Meeting held in Orlando, Florida. Peter will share his experience with developing a brand specifically at a law firm, sharing the importance of creating a mission your colleagues can believe in and the various elements needed to then incorporate that mission and culture into the way you work every day.

Shwetasree Majumder, Fidus Law Chambers (India) is a long-term, active INTA member, beginning on her volunteer path as a committee member in 2005. She has held several leadership roles in committees, and has also led Project Teams, the Global Advisory Council for India, and most recently a Presidential Task Force. Shwe became the first woman from her country to serve on the INTA Board of Directors. Shwe will share her personal and professional transformation that INTA has made possible as she has built in her career inside and outside of INTA.
